Heavy furniture is a furniture removal job when it is the point of the booking, or part of a house removal when the rest of the home is going. The safety point is the same.
Before anyone lifts
Empty drawers and shelves. A wardrobe full of clothes is heavier and unbalanced. Measure the piece against the narrowest door and the turn on the landing. Leeds terraces in Kirkstall, Beeston and Hyde Park often have that turn. A photo is better than a guess.
Take off legs, mirrors and loose shelves only when you know how they go back. If you are not sure, leave them for the crew and say so. We dismantle standard beds and flat-pack wardrobes when it is safe. We do not cut pieces to make them fit.
On the carry
Clear the floor. Blankets protect finishes. They do not make a sofa lighter. Lift with a crew sized to the weight, keep the route short, and put the piece down if a doorway is tighter than expected. Forcing it cracks frames and banisters.
Appliances should be empty, defrosted and disconnected by you. We do not take the weight of a fridge that is still full.
What stays a specialist job
Pianos, safes and anything bolted down need to be named on the quote. Insurance is provided. Ask what is covered, and point out glass and existing damage first. Get a free quote with photos of the piece and the stair.
